MOOSE JAW
MOOSE JAW is the fourth largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. Located on the Moose Jaw River in south-central Saskatchewan, it is located on the Trans-Canada Highway, 77 km (48 miles) west of Regina.
Marked on the map as Moose Jaw Bone Creek in an 1857 survey by surveyor John Palliser there are two theories as to how the town was named. First, it comes from the name Plains Cree moscâstani-sîpiy , meaning "warm place by the river," indicating the protection from bad weather that the Coteau Range provides to the river valley in which the town is located, and the word Plains Cree . moose mouth , meaning a warm breeze. Secondly, part of the Moose Jaw River flowing through the city is shaped like an elk's jaw .
